Please help with my virgo boyfriend Im so confused I dont know what to do?

I have been dating a virgo man for about 6 months He recently said he wanted space. I called him yesterday after giving him some time for himself to talk. He said that he loves me but he likes me better as a best friend than as a girlfriend. Sometimes I think hes still hurt by his ex who he was suppose to marry about 3 years ago. He posted some comment on facebook about a good looking bartender who was a good "therapist" I asked him to remove it out of respect for me but he just ignores me. Im so lost I dont know what to do I love him and he is the first guy I had a relationship with. Do you think that I should continue to be friends and that the intense love would reignite for him or is he just stringing me along? He tells me not to overreact that its not that bad. He says that we should break up so that we can get back together again because when we first met he chased me and according to him I was pushing him away so know we need some time. Someone please tell me what this means and offer me some advice Im so emotionally hurt.
